Flu Vaccination

Faculty, staff and enrolled dependents in a university medical plan can get a flu shot at any OSU Health Plan network provider or retail pharmacy at no cost—no prescription needed. Just present your OSU Health Plan medical/prescription drug ID card. Children ages 6 months to 8 years may need two doses, four weeks apart, the first time they receive the vaccine; children who have had a flu shot before need one dose annually. 

Recommended Flu Vaccine Based on Age:

Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Express Care and Urgent Care by appointment only (for patients 6+ months), and Ohio State Outpatient Retail Pharmacy locations have age-appropriate flu vaccinations (available on a walk-in basis for ages 18+).

In accordance with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, the pharmacist may limit the provision of immunizations if such services cannot be safely provided. Should this occur, our staff can offer a future appointment or refer you to another location offering immunizations.

Network Pharmacies: Flu shots covered at no cost. Examples include Ohio State retail pharmacies, CVS, Walmart, Giant Eagle, Meijer, and Costco.

Excluded Pharmacies (such as Kroger and Walgreens): Flu shots and other prescriptions are not covered.

Please note: To use your pharmacy benefit coverage, the flu shot must be administered by the pharmacist at the network pharmacy itself, not at the “clinic” associated with the pharmacy. The preferred and non-preferred status of in-network pharmacies is subject to change. Flu shots administered by non-preferred pharmacies will be subject to member cost share. Medical benefit coverage for flu shots administered within store “clinics” are subject to using a provider in your medical benefit coverage network.
