Managing Emotions
Suzanne Vickers, LISW-S, Ohio State Employee Assistance Program

Have you ever wanted to feel more comfortable “in your own skin” regarding your emotions?  Have you been in situations where you wanted to fight, flee, freeze or collapse because of an emotional reaction? I know that I certainly can answer “yes” to both questions, although neither situation happen as much as they used to. It’s because I have been able, through support, to connect my mind and body and thus regulate my reactions from both internal and external sources.

I have learned to “check in” with myself about where my emotions “live” in my body and just be with it and notice what happens. I no longer live from the neck up where my brain tries to figure out my emotions and then I get stuck. I have also availed myself of bodywork practices like acupuncture, massage therapy and reiki to integrate my mind-body connection. I am offering a four-part series to support you in being more connected, teach you practices you can do at home, and help you know what to do when you get into a fight, flee, freeze or collapse mode. I hope that you join me in October. Here is the link to sign up: EAP Series: Mind Body Connection and Practice 10.5.23 - 10.26.23 at 11:30 a.m.
